Decision Making: Pros and Cons List

Hello Friends,

In a typical day, an average adult will make approximately 35,000 decisions. Considering that we sleep roughly the third of our day, this can appear to be a lot.

Many of our daily decisions are simple and do not require much thought.

And then, there are decisions we must make that require extra consideration.

For these times, I have found it beneficial to identify the positive aspects (pros) as well as the negative aspects (cons) in making certain decisions.

Some examples I have used such an exercise include purchasing a big-ticket item, deciding between living in a house or apartment, contemplating relocating to a new community, wondering if it’s time to quit a job, and so forth.

To start, create a T-chart and write Pros on the left side and Cons on the right. At the top write the title.

You may choose to write everything you can under Pros first, before switching over to the Cons section, or vice versa, or a mix of both.  Whatever way you choose to fill out your list is perfect.

Once your list is complete, the best decision for you will be clearly revealed.

Hope you have some fun with this exercise and that it brings you greater clarity.

Warm Wishes,

Stephanie
